Earlier this month, after a happy chance that I saw someone mention it on Facebook, I went to Dublin Comic Con. My mission: to meet Paul McGann and get a photo, and also an autograph. Mission status: SUCCESS. Not only was he as lovely in person as I’d heard, but he gave me a hug and a kiss on the cheek. My hands were shaking so much after that, I could hardly put the picture away in the envelope the DCC workers gave me. My friends later labelled the experience as “Cloud 9” or “7th Heaven”. I don’t think those sayings quite cover it. “Over the moon” seems more apt. Transported? For those precious two minutes in the photo booth, I was at once the Doctor’s companion and also myself meeting an actor I admire.
Not only that, but earlier that day I was able to finally go see the Book of Kells. I’ve been wanting to do that since I first missed the opportunity seven years ago. Simply glorious.
